Grandma Lala + OBX = Lots of Pictures

My mom came to visit in May! She was here for her birthday and we decided to go to the Outer Banks. Greg and I have only been once and we didn't really do anything besides go to the beach.

I've been trying to decide how to post the millions of pictures we took. I guess I'll just do one group at a time. So here are the pictures from our trip to Raleigh. We visited the Raleigh Temple grounds and went to the children's museum.

Marbles (Children's Museum)

Next, mom, the kids, and I went to Roanoke Island (an island in the sound between mainland NC and OBX). We visited the aquarium, the Elizabethan Gardens, and the Roanoke Island Festival Park.

NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island

Elizabethan Gardens: "16th century pleasure garden created by The Garden Club of North Carolina as a living memorial to the lost colonists."

Roanoke Island Festival Park: "An interactive family attraction that celebrates the first English settlement in America. The centerpiece of the 25-acre island park adjacent to Manteo is Elizabeth II, a representation of one of the seven English ships from the Roanoke Voyage of 1585."

You get to tour this ship, and it was Macy's favorite part. The rest of the trip she kept asking where the boat was.

Outer Banks & Lighthouses

My mom loves lighthouses (and they're just super cool), so we visited as many as we could.

Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse

This was the first lighthouse we visited. It's called a screwpile lighthouse and is built out on the water. We couldn't really do many photos here because there was a wedding rehearsal going on and we felt weird. These people came out from Ohio to get married here. And we were invited to the wedding.

Currituck Beach Lighthouse

This was our favorite lighthouse. We actually came back with Greg so we could see it at night too. It's the only bare brick one we saw and gives you a good idea of just how many bricks go into these babies. Pretty.

We had to take a ferry to the Ocracoke Lighthouse. The kids were very excited at first, but got pretty restless.

We got to the Ocracoke Lighthouse at the perfect time. Just as we were leaving the NPS guide pulled up. He let us inside and told us all about its history.

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

Skoticus, this one's for you (note the shoes). This is the only lighthouse we were able to climb. Here's the view from the top to the next landing.

Bodie Island Lighthouse

And that's it for lighthouses! Here's some of the other stuff we did.

Macy shared her applesauce with Josh.

We visited the Wright Brothers Memorial

This one's for you, Amber!

And this is the monument to flight. It's a large circle of pillars detailing the major events in the history of flight.

The end! You must really love us if you made it through the whole post.
