We don't get to sleep through the night. Not because of Josh. He started sleeping through the night at about two months and still sleeps a good eight to ten hours at a stretch. Macy, on the other hand, continues with her ups and downs.
After our last bout with sleeplessness (which simply involved having a hard time getting her to sleep, after which she slept, well, like a baby) she suddenly changed her mind and decided she'd go to sleep on her own again.
Unfortunately, she decided again that she needs company to fall asleep. So we spend somewhere between 15 minutes to an hour (sometimes as much as two hours) sitting with her. She tosses, turns, fidgets, wiggles, plays, talks, whispers, kicks, smiles, giggles, cries, and yells. Anything to keep herself from drifting off.
That's frustrating, but we've actually dealt with it before. Unfortunately, she also started waking up in the middle of the night. Usually at least twice. Sometimes she falls right back to sleep, sometimes it takes a while. Then she wakes up around 7:00 a.m., 7:30 at the latest.
Today and yesterday I've given up on naptime (after an hour and a half) and made her play in her room so I can have a break. Because she's very two even when she does get enough sleep.
I do not know what else to try. I do know that I've had enough. It's a good thing Josh is more patient than I am.

this is so frustrating! bella is starting up with some really annoying sleep issues, herself. it drives me bonkers and i just keep hoping and praying that baby #2 is a good little sleeper, but i fear she won't be because bella was so good as an infant, haha.
have you tried just putting her to bed and letting her cry herself to sleep or fall asleep or whatever?
sometimes i wonder how we don't end up with ulcers from the stress and frustrations of parenting.
good luck!!! :)
Man! I hate that. Nothing brings me down like not getting enogh sleep. Lily is an inconsistant sleeper too. She'll go a month sleeping through the night, and then a month of not sleeping through the night. And when she frequently skips her naps, it makes me want to go insane. It's weird how much I value my breaks from her during the day. At least Josh is a good sleeper. What a blessing!
i definitely did not value my sleep enough in my pre-kid days. yikes. dallin has been waking up screaming the past week...it's so weird and random. and then once he calms down, he just wants to play. i don't understand the mind of the (almost) two year-old. seriously, what goes on in there? good luck!!!
