Okay, since you guys are being all literal, we'll give you some more information (see the previous post if you're not sure what I'm talking about).
The cost of living on or off base would be pretty even--we can cover utilities and rent under our BAH, which we won't receive if we live on base (you live rent- and utility-free in exchange for that money). The same appliances are included, both have a storage room, three bedrooms, etc. We're not sure about yard size. Here are the basics.
On-base house:
duplex
1487 sq. ft.
2.5 bath
garage
"gated" community (no visitors!) (kidding)
Off-base house:
standalone townhouse
1203 sq. ft.
2 bath
professionally maintained yard (we're not sure about this on base)
we can paint

Aside from the convenience of living on base, it's safer, less crime. Also, you'll probably have a lot in common with your neighbors.
Yeah the neighbor bit is great, especially if you are involved in the spouses club and other activities.
I know we can paint our house here on base as long as we re-paint before we leave and it's a brand new house. We also get our lawn cut. Is that Balfour Beaty housing on base? If so it should be the same as ours as far as all that stuff goes!
They both look pretty nice though! The extra room on base is a plus too!
One nice thing about living in the standalone house though is you don't share a wall with neighbors so getting the baby to sleep or you to sleep for that matter wont be interupted. Otherwise I think they're both great. You really got a win win situation there!
I like to paint. I vote off-base. Plus I like the off-base kitchen a LOT more. And you'll be more able to make non-military friends. Which I think would maybe be a plus.
i like living on base. people are friendlier (at least they are here...) the shared wall is my only downer.
okay, i have spent the last day or so wondering why it is that i like living on base so much. i have decided it has to do with a couple key points:
1 - we only have one car, so it's super nice to live close so jonathan can ride his bike to work.
2 - he can come home for lunch. not only does this save money, but it's nice to have an adult to talk to mid-day. it also means i can pass dallin off for a couple minutes.
3 - jonathan is gone a lot, and i feel a lot safer on base when he's gone. i recognize that my insecurity might have something to do with the fact that mexico is four miles away. not sure.
that being said, i'm sure you'll like which ever place you end up - they both look fabulous!
